happy chinese new year. fireworks in kuching, taken with my brand new canon powershot s90 in (surprise!) fireworks scene mode.
here’s a really brief review. the camera is awesome. the back control ring is a bit fiddly for my liking, but everything else about it is impressive.
was tossing up between this and the 2 years old but equally awesome panasonic lx3, but in the end took the plunge with this one. had buyer’s remorse for a couple days after, but that has mostly subsided once i actually took the camera out for a spin.
i don’t know the first thing about manual cameras. i have no idea which one takes better photos (in the many different metrics of colour, noise etc.), but general consensus on the intertubes suggest that they are on par. in fact you could only probably see discrepancies if you were really looking for them. or something.
but! with the more intuitive controls of the s90, i find that i am picking up general ideas about messing with the manual controls quite easily. and i carry it everywhere i go.
